Bryan Valiant, my friend and fellow wedding photographer was over visiting today and practicing a bit in my back yard with his Profoto strobe outfit. As a bit of challenge to photograph moving targets with a stationary flash, the doves I released for him to shoot were an ideal subject. I counted to 3, released them and Bryan took the shot. Or shots that is. I’ve got a dozen white doves loose in my back yard now. Obviously they’ll have no trouble finding their way home though.
Anyway, I downloaded the photos to my computer and had a little post processing fun with them. What do you think?

Now here was an interesting wedding. On Saturday Travis and Christine were married at the McChord Air Force Base officer’s club. Just getting onto the base was an experience. Even at the U.S. border you don’t see armed guards pacing with one hand ready on a holstered .45. Thankfully our entry was prearranged and relatively hassle free.
The photos here are unlike any we’ve ever done before, with a look only possible on an air force base. Naturally that was a big attraction for us, but interestingly we picked up some unique images we were not expecting - like the cake knife breaking in two during the cake cutting (priceless expressions from Christine with that happening), :-}, and a terrific wedding party so happy to ham it up for the camera. Fun! As usual, just click on the images to enlarge them.

Jessica and Brian’s wedding yesterday was at the High Cedars Golf Club in Orting, WA. Although it was under a shelter and large tent, it was actually very scenic alongside the ponds and parklike golf course. The family shots were especially nice in this setting. Here is a sampling of the photos until I can work through the whole series and get a slide show up.

Michelle and Greg’s wedding was at Lake Forest Park on the north shore of Lake Washington. After some anxiety about the passing showers and the prospect of having to move the outdoor wedding indoors, the clouds began to to break up and the ceremony started pretty much on schedule.
This wedding was significant for us because not only did we have Michelle and Greg, but we also had two of our previous couples, Bill and Tiffany, and Matt and Jackie, as guests here too. Of course their referrals were invaluable in our being able to do Michelle’s wedding yesterday. Our heartfelt Thank You’s to our friends once again!

Our wedding yesterday was at the home of Rebekah’s step grandmother and then next door at her dad’s house we had the reception. An outdoor garden wedding, beautiful weather, 4 generations of family, and a spirited atmosphere of fun and music! What a party!
There are always special moments in every wedding that you want to preserve forever. I’ll share some of them here with you.

Rebekah and Chris.

Lee and Brian’s wedding at the Schmidt House yesterday was on a hot summer day outdoors in full sun. I saw the bank thermometer on the way to the wedding read 97 degrees! In May! We had on plenty of sun screen and I noticed Catie had hers applied too, but by a brides maid. Luckily the wind picked up later on to help cool everyone down.
I’ll feature some of my favorite images from the wedding here beginning with Danielle, one of Lee’s bride’s maids.
You can click on any image to see it enlarged. As always, comments are welcome.

Today Melodie and I went to the rehearsal for Lee and Brian down at the Schmidt House in Tumwater.
If the weather today was any indication, we are in for some very sunny and hot weather for the wedding tomorrow. Anyway, while we were there getting the low-down on events, I wandered around the grounds and picked up a few interesting shots on the side.

Yes , if you guessed that James is a fireman you would be right! Catie and James were married on Saturday, May 3rd, 2008 at the Cowlitz Expo Center with full honors from his fellow firemen. We had the fire truck, full honor guard, and not a drop of water to cool the flames - of love, that is. This was for us an ideal wedding with the ideal couple. Catie and James clearly were extremely happy and exuberant with their enjoyment of their special day and it was very contagious for everyone around them. What a great party!

We met up with Mey and Ramon at the University of Washington for this shoot. There were definitely concerns about being rained out on this one, but our timing was perfect. The sun broke though the clouds and really completed the springtime air about the whole campus. Flowering trees everywhere. Mey gave us quite the workout as we hoofed it a high speed up and down the paths and streets on and around the campus. But WOW! That is one cool place for for engagement photos. You be the judge.
